New app built
from scratch

How CASSI's mobile app for reciprocity agreement participants was designed from zero — with its own visual identity, component library, and accessibility-first architecture.

Context

CASSI identified the need to offer an exclusive app for participants in reciprocity agreements — a group that previously had no access to a dedicated digital solution.

Participants in reciprocity agreements are those who use CASSI's provider network through agreements with other health plans, such as GEAP or Alice. They rely on CASSI's network and services but are covered by competing health plans.

The absence of a platform created fragmented experiences, preventing these users from accessing basic information and gaining autonomy over available services.

Goal

Develop the new CASSI Agreements app, combining design, technology, and accessibility to:

  • Meet the specific needs of participants from partner networks.
  • Ensure fast and secure access to key services.
  • Build a scalable base of reusable components.
  • Establish a dedicated visual identity aligned with CASSI's standards.

Key challenges

Zero references

Creating an app from scratch, without an existing reference — no established patterns, no prior version, no component base to build from.

Context adaptation

Adapting CASSI's existing services to the reciprocity context — participants have different access rights and information needs than regular CASSI users.

Accessibility

Implementing accessibility criteria following W3C guidelines from the start — not as a retrofit.

Scalable foundations

Developing a complete style guide to support the evolution of new product features well beyond the initial launch scope.

My role

I worked as the product and design lead throughout all stages of development — from concept to delivery and post-launch support.

  • Supported discovery and requirement definition with stakeholders.
  • Guided the creation of the app's new visual identity.
  • Co-developed the style guide and component library, ensuring consistency, improved usability, and accessibility-driven design.
  • Led the UX to UI cycle through to handoff and post-launch iteration.

Solution

Exclusive style guide

A component system documented in Figma, structured according to Atomic Design principles — ensuring visual consistency and ease of future evolution. The app was developed using React, with custom components created specifically for the project.

Adapted services

All available services on CASSI were redesigned according to the profile and needs of reciprocity participants — not simply ported over, but rethought for this audience's specific access rights and use cases.

Main features

  • Biometric login (fingerprint or facial recognition).
  • Quick access to a digital ID card, with options to copy, view the back, and share.
  • Multi-account management on the same device — allowing access to family members' accounts or other partner contracts with CASSI.
  • Personalized notifications about plan updates and activities.
  • Authorization history and details, with integrated justifications and appeals.
  • Monthly filterable usage statements.
  • Access to the CASSI provider network.

digital product aimed at a strategic audience, expanding CASSI's institutional reach

Unified

visual and technical standards between the new app and the CASSI ecosystem

Beyond the immediate product, the project established a solid foundation for continuous evolution and integration with new services — and strengthened CASSI's digital relationships with network partners. The reduced rework from reusable components created ongoing leverage for the team.
